Here's a good one to resurrect the blog with

So it's officially been over 10 months since I last updated this puppy. I guess this is my own "mancave" of a blog because I'm not going to post much of my personal sentimental crap on this. Just the stuff that interests me and has my attention for the time-being.

As of late, my attention has been turned towards using Windows 7, the newest OS that Microsoft plans on releasing soon. The cool thing is that anyone can download a free evaluation copy from MS directly (click here) and it's yours to use until June 1st, 2010. Kind of annoying, it will automatically shut down every two hours after March 1st, 2010 if you haven't upgraded to a legit copy (will be available in stores by then assumably.)

So far... I absolutely love it!

It's everything Vista could have been, but it seems just as stable as XP, and even more lightweight on the RAM and the Processor than both. They've added tons of new features that really make it more attractive and user-friendly.

Some of my favorite new features:

  • Taskbar was completely re-done which allows you to customize quicklaunch apps and their frequently accessed documents and folders.
  • Switching between apps and previewing other windows while switching is very smooth.
  • Cool little gesture features: drag the window to the top of the screen and it will automatically maximize, drag it back and it's back to where it was. Shake the window and all other windows minimize. Shake again and they reappear.
  • Voice Recognition Software - it's not incredibly accurate, but it's definitely cool if you want to tell your computer to open your e-mail, switch to explorer, close a window, etc without using your hands.

In any case, I found that the only problem I had installing it was that you ABSOLUTELY need to burn the install DVD on the slowest settings or you'll get these annoying "missing driver" requests that never resolve themselves - it just means you burned a bad copy. Getting all of the other drivers to work can be a bit tricky, but in the end, it sure beats the promlems we had getting things to work with Windows Vista, even after it had been officially relased a few months.

Anyway... It was definitely worth the update from XP. No looking back now.
